Short Biography


Osama Alswailem, MD, MA, currently holds the position of Chief Information Officer at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC). He is an accomplished and dynamic professional with extensive experience in the areas of Medical Informatics and Information Technology.    

In addition to his role as CIO, Dr. Alswailem is Assistant Professor of Medical Informatics at Al Faisal University, where he shares his knowledge and experience with some of the brightest young minds in the medical field. After demonstrating his leadership capabilities as Director of Medical Clinical Informatics, Dr. Alswailem was appointed Chief Information Officer at KFSH&RC. This marked the beginning of a new era for Healthcare IT at the Hospital. Since then, the new Healthcare Information Technology Affairs (HITA) department has successfully proven itself as an essential strategic partner for the Hospital, having implemented key projects which have resulted in enhanced patient experience, process improvements, and patient-focused delivery.    

Under Dr. Alswailem's leadership, KFSH&RC has attained numerous recognition from the first organization outside of North America to achieve HIMSS Stage 7 Accreditation to the Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence. Dr. Alswailem strongly supports a collaborative healthcare environment by being a healthcare revolutionary in the region and is determined to develop a culture of innovation. His drive is to deliver better healthcare outcomes and improved patient experience through the use of advanced health applications, systems, and technology.
